Future Energies
The average Scot would need 5.37 hectares of land and sea to provide enough energy, food, water and materials to sustain his or her lifestyle. How can Scotland move toward more sustainable energy? As the oil capital of Europe, how is Aberdeen working towards a more sustainable energy future?
Forty years’ experience in oil and gas operations has built Aberdeen into one of the most influential, innovative and proactive energy cities in the world.
Many leading international energy companies are now headquartered in the city, which is universally recognised as the Energy Capital of Europe, and Aberdeen houses a unique concentration of around 900 energy-related businesses, agencies, government bodies and research institutes.
Since 2001, for example, Aberdeen has hosted All-Energy, the UK’s leading annual renewable conference and exhibition. In 2005, it also welcomed the influential World Renewable Energy Congress, and the city has embarked on a number of high-profile flagship renewable energy projects funded by the City Growth Fund
Aberdeen has already firmly established its leadership credentials in oil and gas. Now the city is equally committed to driving renewables, offering significant opportunities for other parts of the UK through established and emerging partnerships.
In this group you will investigate the energies of the future and understand how Scotland and particularly the North East is in a perfect position to lead the way. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands on project in this exciting area.
